Anthony Brunello provides California Strategies' clients with a history of success developing and implementing comprehensive strategies. He has 15 years of experience in leading public and private entities through complex state, national and international climate change, renewable energy and greenhouse gas mitigation policies such as California's Global Warming Solution's Act (AB 32) and the state Renewable Portfolio Standard. From assessing how to report, monitor and offset a company's greenhouse gas emission profile, identifying ways to fund, site or deploy a renewable energy project or technology, or developing individual carbon offset projects, Anthony can help a company or organization be a renewable energy and climate change champion.
Anthony has extensive energy experience in expediting state renewable energy siting programs, fundraising for Clean technology companies, or simply strategizing how to either develop or expand use of alternative and renewable fuels in California. He has also worked extensively in Brazil, Indonesia, and Russia on forestry and trade issues with companies, Governors and government officials. Few have the national and international private- and public-sector experience that Mr. Brunello now brings to California Strategies.
Anthony serves clients in California Strategies' Energy and Environment (EE) practice based in Sacramento. The EE practice consists of prominent individuals including; Winston H. Hickox, Jared Ficker, B.B. Blevins, Ted Harris, Rusty Areias, and Steve Larson. The practice works with all California Strategies' clients to ensure political, technical and financial aspects of any project or program are successfully integrated with California's complicated and overlapping environmental policies. From managing large and small scale renewable energy siting processes, securing state financing, or assisting with any regulatory clean technology issues, the EE practice can assist any entity trying to build a strong presence in California.
Until recently, Anthony served under Governor Schwarzenegger as the California Natural Resources Agency's Deputy Secretary for Energy and Climate Change. As the state Deputy, Anthony initiated, led and managed numerous programs related to planning and siting for renewable energy and alternative fuels development, planning for climate change regulation (mitigation and adaptation), and promoting the clean technology sector. He frequently provided expert witness testimony to Congress, sat on expert commissions and Boards and had significant media exposure on energy, clean technology, and climate change issues. Anthony also established the Governors' Climate and Forest Task Force with Governor Schwarzenegger and sixteen Governors from five countries and was the Interim Director of the Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan.
Prior to his employment with the State of California, Anthony worked for the U.S. Forest Service developing programs related to climate change, renewable energy, forestry, and sustainable resource management. Anthony also has experience working for public and private sector clients including PA Consulting, the World Bank, the U.S. Agency for International Development, Chemonics (an international development consulting firm that promotes meaningful change in developing countries) and the National Park Service. Anthony led the Pew Center on Global Climate Change's economics program and was Executive Director for the Tahoe-Baikal Institute based in Lake Tahoe, California.
Brunello has a Master's of Science in Environmental and Resource Economics from University College London and a B.A. in both Environmental Studies and Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is a sixth generation resident from Lake Tahoe and now lives in Sacramento with his wife Belinda and two daughters Siela and Nadia.
